This allows parallel English /Chinese texts to be viewed simultaneously and for keyword searches to made for both languages. Most texts are HK government public documents and use the traditional character set which is used in Hong Kong.
Basic Operation
Operation is basically similar to the main PolyU Language Bank Concordancer. No sorting is done. The screen is split into 4 frames and a screen resolution of at least 800 x 600 is recommended.
You need an operating system that can view Chinese characters. It works with English Windows 2000 and XP if the Chinese character set is installed.
For Chinese, the easiest way to select a keyword string is to highlight the text displayed in the viewer by dragging the mouse and copying it, and then pasting it into the concordancer form text box for Chinese.
Maximum number of concordances
The default maximum is 2000 for parallel texts. You can change this by selecting from the alternatives (500, 1000, 1500) in the "Max" list box.
Line width
By default the width of each concordance string is 36 characters to the left and 36 to the right of the key word.
Link to context
The keyword in each concordance string is hyperlinked to the context in which it is found. Click on the keyword to see the wider context displayed in the same frame as the concordance list..
